Lift the corners of the mouth
Marionette lines run downward from the corners of the mouth toward the chin. They can give the face a sad or downturned appearance at rest, even when you’re not feeling that way. The lines develop through a combination of muscle activity (the depressor anguli oris muscle that pulls the mouth corners down) and volume loss in the lower face.
Filler placed along these lines and at the corners of the mouth supports the area, lifts the mouth corners, and softens the downward pull. The lower face appears more rested and balanced.
Filler versus anti-wrinkle treatment for this area
Marionette lines can be addressed with anti-wrinkle treatment, with filler, or with a combination. Anti-wrinkle treatment relaxes the muscle pulling the mouth corners downward. Filler restores volume and provides physical support along the lines. Where the cause is mainly volume loss, filler tends to be more effective. Where the cause is mainly muscle activity, anti-wrinkle treatment is the better starting point.
Many clients benefit from both. We’ll discuss the right approach at consultation.
What to expect from your treatment
Following a free consultation, treatment is typically delivered using a cannula to minimise bruising. The treatment takes around 30 minutes. Topical numbing cream is applied first.
Some swelling, tenderness, and occasional bruising are normal for a few days. Results are visible immediately, with the full settled effect at two weeks.
Results and timing
Marionette line filler results typically last nine to twelve months.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will my smile look natural?
Yes. The aim is to soften the downward pull at rest, not to alter your smile. Movement and expression are preserved.
Should I have filler or anti-wrinkle treatment for this?
It depends on what’s causing the appearance you’d like to change. We’ll assess this at consultation and recommend the most suitable approach. Some clients have both.
How long do the results last?
Around nine to twelve months for most clients.
Can I combine this with other lower-face treatments?
Yes. Marionette line filler often pairs well with chin filler, jawline filler, or anti-wrinkle treatment for the chin or mouth area. We’d plan this together.
