Polynucleotide Skin Boosters

Polynucleotides are a highly purified injectable skin booster used to improve hydration, texture and elasticity. Unlike a dermal filler, they add no volume and change no contours. They work at skin quality level, supporting the skin’s own repair activity so that the improvement comes from your skin rather than from a product sitting underneath it.

They are particularly well suited to the under eye area, where fine crepey texture, dullness and thin skin are common concerns that filler cannot address safely or effectively. They are also used across the face, neck, decolletage and hands.

What to expect from your treatment

Following a free consultation, treatment takes around 30 minutes. Numbing cream is applied first, and the product is delivered through a series of very fine injections across the treatment area.

You may see small raised bumps immediately afterwards where the product has been placed. These are normal and usually settle within a few hours to 48 hours. Mild redness and occasional small bruises are also common. Most clients are comfortable going about their day the same afternoon, although I would avoid booking anything significant for the evening of your first session.

Results and timing

Polynucleotides are not an instant result treatment. The change is gradual and builds over several weeks as the skin responds, which is why a course is recommended rather than a single session.

Most clients have a course of three sessions spaced two to four weeks apart, with many noticing an improvement in hydration and brightness after the second. Maintenance is then usually every six to nine months depending on your skin and your goals. I will always be honest at consultation about what a course is realistically likely to achieve for your skin.

Aftercare

Leave the area clean and product free for the rest of the day, avoiding makeup for at least 12 hours. Skip the gym, saunas, steam rooms and hot baths for 48 hours, and avoid facials, peels and strong active skincare for two weeks. Sun protection matters more than usual while the skin is settling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are polynucleotides the same as filler?

No. Filler adds volume and changes shape. Polynucleotides add no volume at all. They are used to improve the quality of the skin itself, which is why they can be used in delicate areas like under the eyes where filler is often not the right choice.

They are similar in that both are skin quality treatments rather than volumising ones, but the active ingredient is different. Polynucleotides tend to be chosen for thin, crepey or fragile skin, particularly under the eyes. We can talk through which is more appropriate for you at consultation.

Numbing cream is applied beforehand and most clients describe it as very manageable. The under eye area is more sensitive than the rest of the face, but the injections are quick and very fine.

Gradually, over a few weeks. Most people notice hydration and brightness first, with texture and firmness improving over the course. This is a treatment that rewards patience rather than one that shows everything on day one.

Typically six to nine months after completing a course, though this varies with skin type, age, lifestyle and sun exposure. Maintenance sessions keep the improvement topped up.
