Marionette lines run downward from the corners of the mouth toward the chin. They can give the face a sad or stern look at rest, even when you’re not feeling that way. The lines are caused partly by repeated muscle activity (specifically, the depressor anguli oris muscle that pulls the mouth corners downward) and partly by volume loss in the lower face.

Anti-wrinkle treatment for marionette lines relaxes the depressor muscle, allowing the natural lift of the mouth to come through more easily. The result is a softer expression at rest.

Marionette lines can be addressed in two ways, and the right approach depends on what’s causing them. If the lines are mainly driven by muscle activity, anti-wrinkle treatment is the better starting point. What to expect from your treatment

Following a free consultation, treatment involves small, precise injections placed at each side of the mouth in the depressor muscle. The treatment takes only a few minutes.

There’s no significant downtime. Mild redness or small bumps at the injection site settle within an hour or two.

Results and timing

Softening usually begins within one week, with the full effect at around two weeks. Results last around three to four months. A complimentary two-week review is included.
