Filler dissolving (Hyalase)

Reset, refresh, or correct previous filler

Hyalase is the brand name of an enzyme called hyaluronidase, which breaks down hyaluronic acid filler so the body can reabsorb it. It’s used in cases where filler has migrated, where a previous result is uneven or unwanted, or where a client wants to reset and start over with a different look.

I offer Hyalase treatment to my own clients and to clients who’ve had filler elsewhere, regardless of where the original treatment was performed.

When dissolving might be the right option

  • Filler that’s migrated outside the lip border or settled in the wrong place
  • Asymmetric, lumpy, or uneven results that haven’t resolved with massage and time
  • Overfilled lips, cheeks, or other areas you’d like to soften
  • Old filler that’s gradually built up over multiple treatments and now needs a reset
  • Wanting to switch from one technique (such as classic lip filler) to another (such as Russian)

What to expect from your treatment

Every Hyalase appointment begins with a thorough consultation, including a patch test where required to check for any reaction to the product. The dissolving treatment itself involves a small number of injections placed precisely into the area where the filler is sitting. Topical numbing cream is applied beforehand.

Some swelling is normal afterwards, sometimes more pronounced than after filler treatment itself. Most of the swelling settles within a few days. The dissolving process itself is usually visible within 24 to 48 hours.

What to expect after dissolving

Once the filler has dissolved, the area returns to how it would look without the filler in place. In some cases this can feel like a more pronounced change than expected, particularly if the filler had been in place for a long time. We’ll talk through what to expect at consultation so you’re prepared.

If you want to be re-treated with new filler after dissolving, I’d recommend waiting at least two to four weeks to allow the area to fully settle. A second appointment to dissolve any remaining filler is sometimes needed for clients with significant volume in place.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will all the filler dissolve in one session?

Most areas resolve well in a single session, but clients with large amounts of filler in place may need a second appointment. We’ll plan this honestly at consultation.

Yes. Hyalase breaks down hyaluronic acid filler so the body can reabsorb it. Once dissolved, the filler is gone.

Yes. I treat clients regularly who’ve had their original filler placed elsewhere. Bring as much information as you can about the original treatment, and we’ll plan from there.

Hyalase has a strong safety profile when used by a trained medical professional. The most common side effects are short-term swelling, redness, and mild bruising. There is a small risk of allergic reaction, which is why a patch test is performed where appropriate. Full risks are discussed at consultation.

Most of the swelling resolves within a few days. The full settled appearance after dissolving is usually visible at two to four weeks.
